Safety and Awareness Programme on Sexual Abuse Held at Narengi
Guwahati, April 3- A special awareness programme on 'Safety and Awareness on Sexual Abuse' was successfully conducted at Priyobondhu Bohumukhi Bidyalay, Forestgate, Narengi, Guwahati, on April 3, 2026. The event was organized by Priyobondhu NGO as part of its continued commitment to child protection, marking its 11 years of dedicated service.
The programme primarily focused on children from slum communities, aiming to educate and empower them with essential knowledge about personal safety. The session emphasized the importance of understanding personal boundaries, identifying unsafe situations, and developing the confidence to speak up and seek help when needed.
Addressing the gathering, resource person Ms. Alokita Baruah, a psychologist, highlighted the psychological aspects of child safety and stressed the need for building trust and open communication among children. She conducted interactive discussions to help children express their concerns freely in a safe and supportive environment.
Another resource person, Ms. Nandita Talukdar, Advocate of the Gauhati High Court, elaborated on the legal aspects related to child protection and rights. She informed the participants about legal safeguards and encouraged them to report any form of abuse without fear.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of Priyobondhu NGO reiterated their commitment, stating, 'At Priyobondhu NGO, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for vulnerable children. This session is designed to help them understand personal boundaries, recognize unsafe situations, and develop the confidence to speak up and seek help.'
The programme witnessed active participation from children, teachers and community members, making it an impactful and meaningful initiative toward ensuring child safety and awareness in vulnerable sections of society.
